Top Ten Bollywood Films that Would Make for Awesome Animated MoviesJanuary 9, 2014
If you’re reading this, you’re probably one of us, annoyed about why Animation Movies in Bollywood are not one-tenth as kick-ass as the animated movies made around the world. I guess you’re also annoyed that most people in the country think that Animated movies are made for ‘bacchalog’ and they are not ‘Paisa Vasool!’ They are completely oblivious to the fact that these movies have universal themes and mash genres up best, something that Bollywood already knows how to do!
I mean animated movies have it all, Slapstick-comedy, dishum-dishum action, dancing around the city, romance and songs you hum along after you’ve left the cinema! So, instead of remaking the same old films into the same new films, if Bollywood really wants to remake why can’t they think of remaking classics as animated movies for the world and the new generation to enjoy?
We think that the head honchos at Bollywood Studios need to take note. And to help them, here is a look at the top 10 Bollywood films that would make for awesome animated movies.
There’s a reason why it’s the greatest film in the history of India Cinema! Every character and every dialogue in the film is still popular. They’ve become a part of our every day life and they’ve even converted the original film in 3D! An animated tribute to this movie would be fabulous!
9) Mughal E Azam:
The film is one of Hindi Cinema’s best-known films ever. The lavish scope, the melodrama, the enchanting music, everything if done right today in Animation could give competition to the best Disney films. Close your eyes and imagine the Sheesh Mahal in 3D animation and you’ll know why this film deserves to be made ASAP!
If this gets converted into an animated movie, I’m sure it would be the longest animated movie ever made. After all it runs 4 hours long! But it never bores you and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout! So think about it: Bollywood + cricket + animation! tumhe “dugna” nahi… “teen guna” maza ayega!
7) Mr India:
An invisible Anil Kapoor fighting villains, an animated Sri Devi dancing on ‘Hawa Hawai’, “Calender and kids” and the iconic Amrish Puri recreated saying his memorable ‘Mogambo Khush Hua’, besides who can forget the flying golden Hanuman statue hitting baddies left, right and center. Need we say more? Get Shekhar Kapur on board and you have a sure shot international hit. Another timeless gem that can be introduced to a new cross-border generation through this format!
In his entire career Salman Khan has never played a more admired character than Chulbul Pandey! What made him so endearing was his animated performance and antics! Hence, the whacking and smacking, the dancing and romancing, the dialogue marooning and of course, the shirt tearing is all tailor made for an animated Blockbuster!
5) The Golmaal Series:
In fact every Rohit Shetty Film ever made including Chennai Express would make for one fab animated feature. Rohit Shetty’s brand of filmmaking defies logic, defies gravity and defies almost everything real. If he flips out (no pun intended) so much on Live Action imagine what he’d do with Animation! Plus, anything Rohit Shetty touches makes a ton of money, so maybe he can give the animation industry a much needed nitrogen boost!
4) Kuch Kuch Hota Hain:
When the first promo of Karan Johar’s Animated version of Kuch Kuch Hota Hain aptly name Koochie Koochie Hota Hain came out, it looked like a lot of fun! Hoppo wonders what happened to it. Karan Johar’s films are anyway as detached from reality as can be, plus this one is a beloved classic that would be even cooler and more colorful and charismatic than the original live action version. Bring it on KJO.
Here’s some good news! There’s already an animated version of Krrish- Kid Krrish on TV right now! If it becomes popular, you never know, we might just get our very own Animated Superhero Flick ala The Incredibles! We’re game. The only thing they really need to work on in the animated version is the music!
2) The Munnabhai Series:
Our very own Mr. Pixar! Mr. Rajkumar Hirani. Not unlike Pixar, every film he directs is a hit. And very much like Pixar films, the Munnabhai films have humor, heart, endearing yet quirky characters, inventive gags and a surprising amount of depth! It would fit right into the Pixar canon of awesomeness! Imagine a collaboration between John Lasseter and Rajkumar Hirani? It could only spawn the most successful animation film ever!
1) Andaz Apna Apna:
If you are a true Bollywood fan and if you read so far, you’ve probably already guessed which film would make it to the top. Andaz Apna Apna is undoubtedly a cult classic that people of all ages enjoy even today. A sequel titled Andaz Naya Naya was in the works and Hoppo hears it was pretty awesome too! What happened you ask? Bollywood happened. But we still hope for a Bollywood happy ending and look forward to seeing Amar and Prem animated along with the zany cast which includes Bajaj, Raveena, Karishna, Teja and his sharbat drinking gang Robert, Bhalla, Crime Master Gogo and of course Vasco Di gama ki gun in the animated sequel to Andaz Apna Apna.
